At the Open House & Marketplace Fundraiser on September 14, we officially unveiled our new mural, “I Can Make a Difference.” Displayed on the side of our Art Studio, this faceless mural project offered a unique art opportunity for students in our Summer Enrichment Camp.
Faceless portraits are a style of art that captures the essence of the person without revealing their face. It aims to portray emotions and personality, and in our project’s case, students’ interests that may spark their future career pursuits.
Local art teacher and enrichment instructor, Ms. Rayvin Lindsey, led our students through the entire mural project from start to finish. It all began with photos of each student, which were digitally transformed into abstract versions. The images were then projected in “life-size” onto paper. Students taped these outlines to the mural location, transferred the designs, and brought them to life with paint.
Next to the portraits, Ms. Rayvin added a phrase that guides our work at the Lighthouse: “Everyone is Able, Everyone is Creative, Everyone Can Make a Difference.” We are very proud of the hard work and creativity our students devoted to this project! The mural’s beauty, vibrant colors and message will be an inspiring piece of our neighborhood for years to come.
