On October 2, our younger after-school program students spent enrichment time at DeHoff Library with Penny the therapy dog, and her owner, Amy Gallentine. Librarian Cait read a dog-themed story to Penny and the kids, and some of our students even read to Penny themselves! ![]()
Penny was so gentle and loving, and she even cuddled up with students while they read. Amy also shared what it means to be a therapy dog, the training involved, and the special places Penny has served. ![]()
Weβre so grateful to Amy, her husband Rob, and Penny for such a sweet and memorable evening (and for gifting us with a book Any wrote herself, which our kids loved flipping through at the end!). ![]()
Plus, the kids got to βmeetβ Griffin, Caitβs dog, who made an appearance in the form of a cardboard cutout! ![]()

Opportunities like this are just one example of how our After-School Program creates fun, hands-on experiences that help kids learn, grow, and build new connections in a safe and encouraging space. ![]()
