Over the Edge Postponement
As we began planning for our Over the Edge event this year we were hopeful that by this time COVID-19 would have become less of a threat than it is today or eliminated entirely. Over the past few months, we have been in communication with the City of Canton’s Health Department to make sure that we were doing everything recommended to prepare for a safe event.
As of Thursday, August 6, Stark County is back to a “Level 2,” meaning there is increased exposure and spread of COVID-19 in our area. This has led the Health Department to make the difficult decision to not allow the Over the Edge event to happen in September 2020. Additionally, they have strongly recommended against rescheduling the event for later this fall.
With the safety of our event participants, volunteers, staff, children, and community our highest concern, we will be postponing the Lighthouse Over the Edge event to the Spring of 2021. We hope to have that date locked in shortly.
We apologize for the inconvenience this causes. All registered participants will be given the option to rappel on the decided 2021 date, or if unable to participate on the determined day, they will be given the option to give their spot to a friend, family member, or to a Lighthouse middle or high school student who wants to rappel.
We can’t thank you enough for your support of each Over the Edge participant as they raised money to support Lighthouse programming and to rappel the Historic Onesto and Bliss Lofts in downtown Canton. The support given to individuals, teams, businesses, and churches preparing to go Over the Edge for the Lighthouse warmed our hearts to see. Especially now, when the world feels especially heavy, your generous support of friends and neighbors, co-workers and youth teams, blew us away.
All participants and teams are encouraged to continue having conversations about the Lighthouse’s Over the Edge event in 2021, and to continue fundraising to meet or surpass their rappeler fundraising goals.
We look forward to a time soon when we can thank you in-person for your support of this event, all of its participants, and the Lighthouse. Until then, be safe.
All of us at the Lighthouse
